DTF Pressing Instructions
DTF Pressing Instructions – 143MTD
To get the best results from your 143MTD DTF Transfers, it’s important to follow the correct pressing steps.
While DTF is one of the easiest and most forgiving print methods available, proper heat, pressure, and peeling technique will ensure your prints look vibrant, feel smooth, and last through repeated washing and daily wear.
Below is a complete guide to pressing DTF, Glitter DTF, and common troubleshooting tips so your final product turns out perfect every time.
Before You Begin
Before pressing any transfer, always check:
✔ Your Heat Press Temperature
Every press heats differently. A press showing 300°F may actually be running at 270°F.
Use a heat gun or temperature strip occasionally to verify accuracy.
✔ Your Pressure Settings
DTF requires medium to firm pressure.
Not enough pressure can cause lifting, cracking, or uneven adhesion.
✔ Your Garment
Your shirt or fabric must be:
- Clean
- Dry
- Free of lint
- Flat and wrinkle-free
✔ Pre-Press the Garment
Always pre-press for 2–3 seconds to remove moisture and flatten fibers.
Moisture is the #1 reason transfers fail to adhere properly.
Standard DTF Pressing Instructions
These instructions apply to all 143MTD DTF Transfers, including full-color custom prints and gang sheet designs.
STEP 1 — Pre-Press the Garment
- Temperature: 275–300°F
- Time: 2–3 seconds
- Purpose: Removes moisture and flattens fibers for better adhesion.
STEP 2 — Position Your Transfer
- Place the DTF print ink-side down / film-side up on the garment.
- Ensure the print is centered and aligned.
- Use heat-resistant tape if necessary to prevent shifting.
STEP 3 — Press the Transfer
- Temperature: 285–300°F
- Time: 8–12 seconds
- Pressure: Medium
- NOTE: Every press runs differently — if you notice peeling resistance, increase temperature slightly or increase pressure.
STEP 4 — Peel the Film
143MTD DTF transfers work with hot peel or warm peel, depending on your press.
✔ Hot Peel:
Peel the carrier film slowly immediately after pressing.
✔ Warm Peel:
Wait 3–5 seconds before peeling.
If the transfer lifts while peeling hot, simply let it cool slightly.
Peel slowly and steadily in one smooth motion.
STEP 5 — Repress (Recommended for Best Finish)
After peeling the film:
- Cover the print with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet
- Press again for 5–7 seconds at 285–300°F
- Pressure: Light to medium
This second press gives the design:
- A smoother finish
- Better durability
- Better wash resistance
- A softer feel
Your print is now fully cured and ready to wear.
Glitter DTF Pressing Instructions
Glitter DTF requires slightly different settings to fuse the glitter adhesive properly.
STEP 1 — Pre-Press
- 2–3 seconds
- Remove moisture, flatten fibers
STEP 2 — Position Transfer
- Align carefully; glitter designs show misalignment more easily
STEP 3 — Press
- Temperature: 300°F
- Time: 12–15 seconds
- Pressure: Medium
STEP 4 — COLD Peel
Let the transfer cool for completely, then peel slowly.
STEP 5 — Second Press
Cover with parchment or Teflon and press:
- 5–8 seconds
- Medium pressure
Troubleshooting Guide
If something doesn’t look right, here’s what to check:
Transfer Lifting When Peeling
- Pressure is too low
- Temperature is too low
- Peeling too early
- Garment was not pre-pressed
- Moisture in fabric
- Thick garments (hoodies) may require longer press time
Edges Not Sticking
- Increase pressure
- Add 1–2 more seconds of heat
- Ensure the design is fully in contact with the press surface
Cracking or Fading After Washing
- Incorrect press settings
- Not enough pressure
- Not repressed after peeling
- Washing too soon
- Harsh detergents or high-heat drying
